The scarecrow, originally a mostly ineffective device for scaring birds away from crops, has become a folk figure for gardens and harvest festivals. Some of the projects in this book may turn out to be a bit scary for the neighbors. They range from "Uncle Billy," a traditional straw-stuffed clothing figure, to "Gruesome Gourd Gargoyles," definitely a spooky sight on a dark night. Most of these step-by-step projects use recycled materials, garden produce, and conventional craft techniques. A good selection for public libraries. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
