Making rustic furniture allows woodcrafters to exercise their creativity as well as make use of frequently discarded materials like logs or twigs. The authors, both woodworkers, show readers how to make 30 projects of varying complexity. Creating rustic furniture is usually an informal and unstructured craft that requires practitioners to master a few basic techniques and then make do with what they can find. In this title, however, readers are offered fairly detailed, step-by-step plans that even include a bill of materials. Projects range from simple plant surrounds made from woven vines to large pieces of furniture. A tree surround bench made of woven saplings and a log arbor with a swing are especially striking. Several short sections on the history of this style, specialized techniques for working with materials like bark, and painting or other finishing techniques round out the text. While not essential, this title has appealing projects that recommend it for larger collections. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
