Since the first edition of MRI in Practice was published in 1993, the book has become the standard text for radiographers, technologists, radiology residents, radiologists and even sales representatives on the subject of magnetic resonance imaging. This text is essential reading on postgraduate courses. Furthermore, MRI in Practice has come to be known as the number one reference book and study guide in the areas of MR instrumentation, principles, pulse sequences, image acquisition, and imaging parameters for the advanced level examination for MRI offered by the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the USA. The book explains in clear terms the theory that underpins magnetic resonance so that the capabilities and operation of MRI systems can be fully appreciated and maximized. This third edition captures recent advances, and coverage includes: parallel imaging techniques, functional imaging techniques and new sequences such as balanced gradient echo.
Building on the success of the first two editions, the authors have now re-conceptualized the design of the book. The third edition contains a wealth of additional illustrations and chapter enhancements draw on the depth of the authors' experience in delivering MRI education and training. To promote accessibility of difficult concepts, extended analogies have been developed to relate the complexities of MRI physics to everyday phenomena. Learning points are clearly articulated, and frequent summaries are included to assist the reader in digesting the information.

SYNOPSIS
The second edition of MRI in Practice continues to provide a comprehensive introduction to MRI, describing the essential concepts in a clear and accessible style. The physics theory of MR is explained in detail, set out in an uncomplicated manner. The text has been thoroughly revised and updated with many new illustrations and images. Key topics including K Space and Echo Planar Imaging have been fully expanded to take account of current practice. Each chapter in the book retains the popular format presenting key points of the chapter. Learning points and a questions section help the reader to evaluate their understanding of the text. Advances in MR Techniques is a key new chapter which brings together advanced practice reflecting current developments. This chapter considers developing techniques including Functional Imaging, Perfusion, and Diffusion. This book is an essential text for all student and practicing radiographers, technologists and radiologists involved in MRI.
FROM THE CRITICS
Nils Thomas Anderson
This book serves as an educational reference for those interested in magnetic resonance imaging. It contains information on how and why MRI works. The previous edition was published in 1993. The goal of this edition is to provide healthcare practitioners with updated information about how the physics of magnetic resonance are used to acquire diagnostic images. This increased knowledge will help individuals with certification in this field, thus providing better patient care. In my opinion, the goals of the authors have been met. The introductory level of this book makes it a suitable means for a variety of healthcare personnel to increase their knowledge on this sometimes intimidating subject. Anyone associated with the field of radiology could benefit from the information provided by these credible authors. The illustrations serve their purpose, but seem endless. Color may have broken the tedium of so many diagrams. The references are necessary and current. Resources on this topic at this level are limited, increasing the value of this offering. The greatest asset of this text are its completeness and currency. This information is much needed. The way it is formatted here not only makes it available but palatable. This edition is a vast improvement over the previous one and is easily justified. I will make use of it myself and will recommend it to anyone interested in magnetic resonance.
