Reviewer: Valerie L. Ng, PhD, MD (Alameda County Medical Center/Highland Hospital)Description: This paperback book is a comprehensive set of examination certification questions related to phlebotomy practice. Purpose: The purpose is to provide a comprehensive study guide for those preparing to take their phlebotomy certifying exams. Audience: This book would be useful to all non-MD phlebotomists. Features: With the exception of the first introductory chapter, the remainder of this book is devoted to all aspects of phlebotomy theory and practice. The first chapter explains the rationale for phlebotomy certification, lists the national accrediting agencies and organizations, and briefly discusses studying and test-taking tips and strategies. The next 13 chapters deal with specific aspects of phlebotomy. All chapters have their specific material presented in a multiple choice exam format followed by a section identifying and discussing the correct answer and explaining why the other answer choices were incorrect. The information is comprehensive and current, and written in a very easy to understand and readable style. This is a great format in which readers can test their knowledge in specific areas of phlebotomy. The final chapter is a mock comprehensive exam (followed by a listing and discussion of the correct answers). Finally, the book comes with a companion CD-ROM, in which specific areas can be chosen, appropriate questions brought up from the database, and one's answers immediately scored (talk about instant gratification). This CD-ROM is notable for being exceptionally easy to install, very user-friendly and intuitive to use, and mimics the real-world, computer-based method of testing today. It truly provides the best "real-world" experience for those preparing to take the phlebotomy certification exam. Assessment: This is a great tool for those preparing for their phlebotomy certification exam, and highly recommend it.
