Fundamentals of Sectional Anatomy: An Imaging Approach incorporates the best features of every book currently available on this topic and adds some additional features making it user friendly. A complete anatomical review is included for each chapter, utilizing numerous line drawings and putting all key words in bold. The meaning for all words in bold is included in the glossary. The key feature is the fact that two complete sets of images are included for each section and each image is fully labeled, expediting the learning process. This approach provides the individual with a realistic exposure to sectional images and provides the opportunity for virtually all anatomy discussed to be identified on the images. The repetition reinforces the assimilation of material. Associated with each image is text permitting the user to self-teach. Review questions are included at the end of each chapter. Unique features are a separate chapter on facial bones and sinuses and the fact that both male and female pelvic images are included in the chapter on the pelvis.

Lazo (Community College of Rhode Island) reviews fundamentals for students in radiography, those preparing to take CT or MRI exams, and those interested in learning more about anatomy. Starting at the vertex of the skull and descending to the symphysis pubis, numerous line drawings and two complete sets of fully labeled b&w medical images are included in each section. The vertebral column and major joints of the upper and lower extremities are also included, and there is a separate chapter on facial bones and sinuses. Anatomical reviews open each chapter, and chapter reviews are included. Annotation ©2005 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Cris Anne Zimmermann, R.T.(R)(Froedtert Hospital)Description:This book is an interesting tool used to teach radiographers and student radiographers the fundamentals of sectional anatomy.Purpose:It can be used alone as in a self-study course or in conjunction with a formal lecture/class setting. The book is needed in the rapidly growing area of CT and MRI. More and more exams are now sectional images. Technologists and students alike need to be able to label structures of the sectional anatomy. The book is much better for learning sectional anatomy than simply using an atlas.Audience:The author is a credible authority on sectional anatomy and this book is written for an audience that includes radiographers and student radiographers who are interested in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.Features:The book covers sectional anatomy of all body regions including head/neck, body, spine and extremities. It starts out with a brief review of the anatomy of the section and then follows with sectional images in CT and MRI in sequential order. The images are annotated and not redundant. I especially enjoyed the critical thinking questions at the end of each chapter.Assessment:This is a fine tool for radiographers to use to advance their skills in CT and MRI, but I prefer Introduction to Sectional Anatomy by Madden (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2001). The Madden book includes line drawings of the anatomy to outline the fine details, a test bank, and a companion CD with images that are annotated and unlabeled.
